Grey

By Bhanwa Sankhla

GREY The Colour of Reality They say life is black and white, A world of wrong and right. But if the truth lies in these opposites, Why do we find ourselves drawn to grey? From the deepest corners of our minds To the colours we call our favourites, From the words that fill our conversations To the silence that speaks between our thoughts. Grey lives in places we seldom notice, In the questions we cannot answer, In the truths we struggle to accept, And in the choices we are afraid to make. Often misunderstood, Sometimes despised, yet strangely adored. We resist its uncertainty, Yet seek refuge in its embrace. Perhaps because grey is cosmopolitan, A colour without borders, A meeting place of contradictions, Where opposing truths learn to coexist. Where right is not always righteous, And wrong is not always wicked. Where justice wrestles with mercy, And certainty surrenders to understanding. For life is seldom painted in absolutes. Even light must encounter shadow, And between the darkness and the dawn, A thousand shades remain unseen. Perhaps grey is not the absence of colour, Nor the compromise between black and white. Perhaps it is the colour of being human, Of everything we are, And everything we are yet to understand. For grey is not merely a colour. Grey is the colour of reality.

On narrow screens, wrapped lines continue at an indent.
